Patrick Zhang Peichao (张沛超, ZPC, doc creepy) is a psychoanalyst working in Shenzhen.
Relationship to Zhang Sanjian
At 1pm on March 7, 2022, the Zhang Sanjian (ZSJ) public account suddenly posted a poster for a parent class on childhood ADHD:
The words just say "Broadcast to everyone".
This post was deleted just a minute or two later.
There are two watermarks on the bottom right, besides the ZSJ one, the other leads us to the public account of the doctor hosting the class, Li Zehua:
Dr. Li is a pediatric psychiatrist based in Shenzhen Children's Hospital. Looking through Dr. Li's previous articles, we find that he has reposted articles from another doctor named Zhang Peichao:
A brief search online and we find that Dr. Zhang and Dr. Li are quite closely connected. They collaborated on trainings:
Dr. Li attended group trainings run by Dr. Zhang (this is a different CAPA). They both graduated from Wuhan University and both now work in Shenzhen:
Dr. Zhang is quite prolific in his public account and appears to manage it on his own (he does not list a management company). Besides articles relating to his work, he also posts movie reviews, poetry, drinking tea, his kids, etc.
ZSJ in an article published on the evening of 2/11 (timestamp shown is PST) said: "A psychotherapist told me, the strength of truth is always far greater than the strength of perfection."
It turns out that the psychotherapist is Dr. Zhang, except his article with this quote was published 6 hours after ZSJ's article:
Recall that the ad for Dr. Li's class was accidentally posted by ZSJ, then immediately deleted when he realized his mistake.
A few other notes:
- Although both Dr. Li and Dr. Zhang have published movie reviews, the latter does so much more frequently.
- In the one movie review that Dr. Li wrote, he also mentioned The Truman Show, which ZSJ has quoted.
- Dr. Li is probably licensed to prescribe medication as a pediatric psychiatrist (but Effexor is not meant to be used in children), while Dr. Zhang as a psychotherapist probably is not.
Activities in Fandom
Dr. Zhang has been quite active in the Word of Honor community and appears to be a big fan. He has written a couple of viral articles, one of which compares the different versions of the script:
How did he get all the different scripts, because they're not publicly available? Dr. Zhang is friends with Nada, Word of Honor's script writer, and Hao Jingfang, the science fiction writer who credited Word of Honor as inspiration to finish her book:
He is also mutual friends with one of the moderators of the largest ZSJ fan group on Facebook (this fan is an employee of Meta).
Controversial Opinions
Zhang Peichao previously posted derogatory and insulting remarks about the CCP and the Chinese people on his Facebook account.
His only like in the TV shows category is an account that openly supports Taiwan and Hong Kong independence. The owner of the account, Ben Hedges, works for NTDT, an organization funded by the anti-China cult Falun Gong.
Education and Background
Zhang Peichao graduated from Wuhan University's Philosophy department with a PhD in philosophy[1]. He currently is part of the Chinese faculty at California Institute of Integral Study[2], an institution that is not accredited by the American Psychological Association[3]. CIIS itself was previously accused of fostering personality cults around its faculty[4]
Zhang Peichao is an avid practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism.
