Yacht Photos

In February 2021, a Shenzhen-based influencer named 房佩娟 Prayjane posted photos on a yacht from Valentines day. A man and several women in the photos had their faces censored. Recognizable people on the yacht were Prayjane, her husband 李思远, Danny, Lexus, and Yu Dehao.

In July, these photos were widely disseminated with hot searches on Weibo to allege that the man with his face covered was Zhang Zhehan and the woman in the white top was Wang Peiwen. Marketing accounts, gossip sites, and antis spread the rumor that the yacht trip had been a proposal and that Zhang was secretly engaged. These rumors were accompanied by various photos of Zhang Zhehan, some apparently with Wang Peiwen. None of these photos can be verified in authenticity and many have been debunked as fake or photoshopped.

For example, these photos are with a man that was claimed to be Zhang Zhehan's father. The rumor was spread that Zhang took Wang Peiwen to celebrate his father's birthday on May 19, 2021. The man is also wearing a Burberry t-shirt that came out in 2021. However, unknown to everyone, including his fans, Zhang's father had passed away in 2016. This fact about his family was only revealed in December 2021 by Li Xuezheng. These pictures appear to have been photoshopped.

Screencaps of chatlogs with Prayjane and Danny emerged, in which they denied that Zhang was engaged but did not deny that he was the man on the yacht.

On July 29, 2021, Zhang Zhehan's studio posted a lawyer letter addressing some of the accusations and listing some of the social media accounts spreading the rumors:

This smear had a very negative impact on Zhang Zhehan's professional reputation. A number of big fans loudly declared that they were unstanning him, including the owner of the Rainy Night Group. Their motives, along with the motives of accounts that spread the girlfriend rumors, have since become suspect. This includes 楚玉v and an account that we now know was managed by Sophie. It is now believed that this smear was meant to pave the way for 813, destroying Zhang's credibility in the eyes of the public. To this day, Wang Peiwen continues to be a main source of derision and slander against Zhang Zhehan, with antis like HBW using her name in their screen names.

Wang Peiwen cleared out her Weibo and did not respond to the rumors. However, various chatlogs and an account claiming to be her friend appeared, supporting the rumor that she was Zhang's secret girlfriend. These accounts are strongly linked to Sophie.

Activities After 813

Wang Peiwen cleared out her Chinese social media accounts in 2021, but began posting on Weibo again in April 2022.

Wang Peiwen began posting photos and videos of herself and her daily life on April 21, 2022. She posted infrequently but regularly.

In June, several photos that she posted were found to be the exact same photos another influencer posted about a day before her. (Many services in China exist that supply content for personal social media.)

In October, Wang Peiwen posted a group of photos in a fashion boutique with Prayjane. Not counting the yacht photos with the faces covered, these are the only photos with the two of them together after Wang deleted all her previous social media.

Weibo Side Account

In August 2022, a Weibo account that claims to belong to Wang Peiwen began making defamatory posts against Zhang Zhehan, claiming that she was forced to sign an agreement with his studio to delete her social media, that they were engaged but he broke off the engagement, that she never received financial compensation from him, that they lived together for a short while and he made her do all the chores, etc. These details correspond strongly with Sophie's life story as told by herself on Tianya, when she became the mistress of a wealthy businessman shortly after graduating high school. She also expressed unhappiness in her current marriage.

Wang Peiwen has an Instagram account which only contains three posts from before July 2020. HBW was previously one of the first ten followers of this account.

What We Know

Wang Peiwen as a person exists, but it is uncertain to what degree she controls her social media. At least one of her accounts, the Weibo side account, and possibly more, appear to be controlled by Sophie. No aspect about her life as currently told on her accounts is true. She does not live in Shanghai, but sometimes travels there. She never dated nor even knew Zhang Zhehan personally. His team tried and was unable to contact her during the height of the girlfriend smear in 2021. She appears to have sold her ID number and other personal info to the scam ring.

The only sourced photo of someone that appears to be Wang Peiwen with Zhang Zhehan was posted by 王仕鹏 Wang Shipeng on his Weibo in May 2020. He does not tag either of them in his post, despite tagging everyone else in the photos. Wang is an ex-CBA player who is friends with Lexus. This photo was also spread during the girlfriend smears to associate Zhang Zhehan with Wang Peiwen.
