In July 2021, Zhang Zhehan was rumored to be in a secret relationship with a model named Wang Peiwen. When the yacht photos central to the smear spread throughout Chinese social media, a user named yyds保佑jz posted a chatlog on July 23 in which they messaged Meng Duo, a basketball player in the photos, for clarification. As the chatlog shows, he replied immediately, stating that Zhang Zhehan was single, but did not deny that the man with his face covered is Zhang. This seemed to confirm for many both the authenticity of the yacht photos and Meng's close relationship with Zhang. Baidu search shows that as of June 22, yyds保佑jz only had five followers. Many other fans also messaged Meng at the time, but none received a reply.

In October 2021, when Sophie was established in the fandom as 俊哲香瓜子, her Weibo account was suspended. Another member of her group, 冰姬仙子, posted about the suspension with a screenshot of the account. A search for the UID shows that it is a match for yyds保佑jz. (Weibo UIDs are unique and immutable[1].) After she changed usernames from yyds保佑jz to 俊哲香瓜子, Sophie continued to spread the girlfriend smears, posting a video of Zhang's birthday in which she claims a nondescript woman in the back is Wang.

During the height of the girlfriend rumors, alleged chatlogs between Wang and Zhang's studio emerged. Coincidentally, the tagline of the WeChat account attributed to Wang is the same as Sophie's WeChat, which is tied to the phone number of her companies and her QQ number.

When her WeChat account was exposed, Sophie posted chatlogs that she claims were between her and a fandom friend last August, discussing the Wang Peiwen chats. However, an emoji seen in Sophie's chatlog was only released by Weibo in March 2022, proving that the date of the chatlogs Sophie posted are falsified. Sophie subsequently deleted the post but not before it was captured in screen recording[2].

In August 2022, a Weibo account that claims to belong to Wang Peiwen began making defamatory posts against Zhang Zhehan, claiming that she was forced to sign an agreement with his studio to delete her social media, that they were engaged but he broke off the engagement, that she never received financial compensation from him, that they lived together for a short while and he made her do all the chores, etc. These details correspond strongly with Sophie's life story as told by herself on Tianya, when she became the mistress of a wealthy businessman shortly after graduating high school. She also expressed unhappiness in her current marriage.

A Twitter account that made a post on August 4, 2021, claiming to be Wang Peiwen's friend, is also suspected to be Sophie, though unconfirmed. The essay she wrote regarding Wang's relationship with Zhang Zhehan is similar to Sophie's writings. The account posted flight itineraries claiming to prove that Wang went to visit Zhang at his filming sites.

Activities in Zhang Zhehan's Fandom

After 813, Sophie and her husband Umbrella were core members of a group of fans advocating for being vocal about clarifying for Zhang Zhehan (now referred to as the clarification gang). Umbrella himself sent out a list of group members in 2021. Sophie encouraged fans to pester official departments and organized offline meetups. In October 2021, Sophie in her QQ group told fans that CAPA did not have anything to do with anti-monopoly and encouraged them to write to the CAC and the NRTA, providing them with the private email address of the CAC director. Subsequently in their criticism of Zhang, CAPA accused him of inciting underage fans to irrational behavior and disrupting official departments.

These are the rest of Sophie's directions to fans in her QQ group:

In September 2021, when Zhu Yilong was under attack for praying at a Japanese shrine, Sophie sent out four different talking points to Zhang Zhehan fans directing them to defend Zhu and linking his incident to Zhang, despite the two being vastly different in nature, as Zhang had never set foot in the shrine he was accused of praying at.

In February 2022, Tantan, a marketing account turned JunZhe fan, revealed that he had previously been contacted by someone who claimed to be in direct contact with Zhang Zhehan. They provided him with material that initially convinced him of their legitimacy, and asked him to publicly support Zhang Sanjian. However, Tantan soon began to question the validity of their claims and refused to continue working with them. The profile photo of the person who contacted him appears to match Sophie's QQ profile.

In April 2022, Sophie made a post on Weibo equating the legitimacy of many scam ring accounts with Li Xuezheng and Zhang Mama. In this post, she inadvertently confirmed the real names of Su Shifu and Ma-ge, and also revealed that Su Shifu no longer worked at his previous podcast and was now a freelancer/unemployed. In November 2022, Ma-ge (aka military intern) publicly admitted that he had been solicited by Sophie and 妙啊啊 last August to join their group.

Role in Smear Campaigns Against Gong Jun

Sophie frequently used a method in which she makes a relatively mild post, then after it has been widely reposted, editing the post to make it significantly more slanderous. She used this method to smear both Zhang Zhehan in 2021 (with the Wang Peiwen rumors) and Gong Jun in 2022. In one instance, she started with one photo and a cryptic line that doesn't name any names, and ending with a post that contains 9 images, two smear tags, tags two police units, includes Gong Jun's full name, and falsely accuses him of using drugs. She edited the post a total of 26 times[3].

Involvement with Zhang Sanjian

In May 2022, Sophie made a post simultaneously denying involvement with Xie Yihua and defending her. However, she previously posted screencaps that showed she was in direct contact with Xie.

On March 31, the first EHzZ product, a baseball cap, was released for preorder. That day, Sophie replied to a fan that she had bought a black one. On April 2, the brand's official account posted photos of a man and a woman wearing the hat, long before it was received by customers. The woman closely resembles Sophie. On April 21, Sophie made a post claiming she had not been able to buy a hat and that another fan was intending to gift her one, but it had yet to arrive.

On June 12th, 2022 at around 4:30pm-7pm, Sophie was present at a golf range in Shanghai with a man who resembled Zhang Zhehan from certain angles, but was clearly not him. They were captured on the golf range's surveillance video. Sophie and the man created content for the Zhangzhehan_super3 Instagram account that was released on June 14th. There were multiple witnesses who saw them enter and leave the range, and the surveillance video has been obtained by the police.

Sophie denied that she was at the golf range on June 12th by claiming that she did an area-wide Covid test that day then drove five hours to Zhejiang, and was currently in a quarantine hotel in Zhejiang. However, the IP of this post was set to Singapore, showing that Sophie was using VPN to mask her location. Moreover, her phone number was registered to 嘉定区, which did area-wide Covid tests on June 11, not June 12.

In the course of denying these allegations, Sophie tried to attack QV by accusing her of supporting Hong Kong independence. She initially included defense of Zhang Peichao in her post, but then edited her post to delete him entirely. She threatened to sue and posted what she claimed was a legal letter that she submitted to Weibo. The opinion of legal professionals in China is that the letter is fake, as it failed to adhere to basic legal standards. Months later, there is no record of any lawsuit brought against Weibo in Sophie's name. No one else Sophie threatened to sue has heard from her lawyers.

Ties to CAPA

Public records show that there is only one person in Shanghai with Sophie's name. She is an executive in three Shanghai companies, one of which is a clothing company that she joined in 2018 as a board member. The biggest shareholder of this company is Japan Toray Industries.

Toray was founded by the Mitsui Group, which still holds major shares in the company. The two companies have close business ties with each other. Mitsui previously invested USD$15M in Six Rooms[4].
