On August 13, 2021, Reuters published an article about the Yasukuni shrine. They edited this article the morning of Aug 15, Beijing time.
It is almost exactly the same as an article they published on Yasukuni on August 3, 2020. The cover picture was changed from one with a focus on cherry blossoms, to one with people praying in front of its iconic main hall.
For major publications, we understand that republishing an article written a year ago with minor edits is typically not done. Reuters does not have a tradition of publishing an article explaining Yasukuni every August. 2020 and 2021 were the only two years they did so.
Hours after Reuters edited their Yasukuni article, they published an article about CAPA's boycott of Zhang Zhehan, with erroneous info. Zhang Zhehan did not visit Yasukuni even once, much less twice. There was only one set of photos used in the smear. The rumor that he visited multiple times was spread word-of-mouth by antis with zero even fabricated evidence.
CAPA's boycott notice was posted at 9am on August 15. The Reuters article was published only a few hours later (timestamp shown on screencap is PST).
The reporters who wrote the article do not report on entertainment news. They typically report on politics. They also both spend their times between Singapore and Beijing. One of them interned at both People's Daily and China Youth Daily. Interestingly, she uses a photo of herself in a kimono bowing to what is apparently a Japanese shrine (?) as her profile photo.
