The Straits Times is an English-language daily broadsheet newspaper based in Singapore and currently owned by SPH Media Trust (same parent company as Zaobao).

Before August 14, 2021, the Straits Times mentioned Zhang Zhehan briefly in two articles in May 2019 about Zhao Wei.

On August 14, 2021 2:28 pm, the Straits Times posted an article with the headline "Yasukuni Shrine visits by Japanese defence chief Kishi, Chinese actor Zhang Zhehan draw anger."[1] It states, erroneously, that Zhang Zhehan visited Yasukuni, and placed his name and picture beside the Japanese chief of defence.

On August 26, 2021, the Straits Times posted another article[2] with the erroneous claims that:

  • Zhang Zhehan was criticized by the CCDI.
  • He had taken pictures in front of the shrine.
  • CAPA is a part of the government.

On August 27, 2021, the Straits Times posted another article[3] which put Zhang's name next to the name of indicted criminal rapist, Kris Wu. The article also implied that Zhang Zhehan has a chaotic and unhealthy online fan circle, a known CAPA narrative to justify the subsequent 1123 ban.

On August 29, 2021 and September 5, 2021, the Strait Times continued to post articles[4][5] about other celebrities (Li Nanxing and Stephanie Sun) while also mentioning Zhang Zhehan and repeating the false claim that he had taken photos at the shrine.

The Straits Times did not report on Li Xuezheng, Zhang Zhehan's case being accepted by the Beijing Police, nor his audio interview.

On September 12, 2022, the Straits Times published an article in their print media deriding those who question Zhang Sanjian as "conspiracy theorists."
